ASPEN: Computer-Aided Assembly Sequence Planning and Evaluation System Based on Predetermined Time Standard
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this research is to objectively evaluate the differences among the feasible assembly sequences. For this purpose, a computer-aided Assembly Sequence Planning and Evaluation system (ASPEN) was developed. ASPEN automatically searches all geometrically feasible sequences by decomposing solid models of a product. ASPEN also chooses an optimum sequence with the least operating time. MTM (Methods Time Measurement) and DFA (Boothroyd's Design For Assembly) which are kinds of predetermined time standards are used to explicitly evaluate the differences of operating time among feasible sequences. The calculation of the operating time based on the data obtained from the sequence planning is discussed. The proposed evaluation method is verified through an experiment on actual assembling work. Computer-aided process planning (CAPP) is an essential component in linking computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Operation sequencing in CAPP is an essential activity. Each sequence of production operations which is produced in a process plan cannot be the best possible sequence every time in a changing production environment. As the complexity of the product incr...

Achieving an appropriate assembly sequence needs deep verification for its physical feasibility. For this purpose, industrial engineers use several assembly predicates; namely, liaison, geometric feasibility, stability and mechanical feasibility. However, testing an assembly sequence for these predicates requires huge assembly information. Extracting such assembly information from an assembled ...

A feature-based model is proposed for assembly sequence planning automation. The fundamental assembly modeling strategy for a product is based on the mating features of its components. The objectives of this study are to integrate assembly planning of a product with its CAD model, generate a correct and practical assembly sequence and establish a software system to carry out the planning proces...
